Abstract

THE YEW TREE (TAXUS L.) AS AN ITEM OF HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE IN THE WORLD AND UKRAINE

«Alexandria» State Dendrological Park, NAS of UkraineThe old growth yew trees (Taxus L.) are the unique monuments of nature, history and culture of the last centuries. The article discusses the ways of preservation, a general and individual conservation status of the old growth yew trees in Europe and the Ukraine. It was determined a longevity of yew trees in the wild condition of Ukraine and in the introduction condition of Forest-steppe of Ukraine. It was distributed of all old yew trees in Ukraine into 3 groups (the Notable, Veteran and Ancient) according to the scale by F. Hageneder (2011, 2013). Also it was reviewed a vitality of yew trees by the system of Е.А. Prokofieva, based on the methodology by G.V. Kulikova (2000).
